Privacy policy
Last updated: 13 October 2026
Detec New Zealand ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains how we handle personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
What we collect
When you send an enquiry through our website, by email or by phone, we collect the details you give us: usually your name, company, email address, phone number, project location, a description of your project, and any plans or photos you attach.
Website analytics and cookies
Our website uses Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, such as which pages are viewed, how visitors arrived, and approximate location. Google Analytics uses cookies to do this and does not tell us who you are. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.
When you play a video on our site, it loads from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode, and YouTube's own privacy policy applies.
How we use it
We use your information to respond to your enquiry, provide quotes and testing services, arrange CPD presentations, and keep records of the work we do. We don't sell your information or use it for unrelated marketing.
Who we share it with
Enquiry form submissions are passed through Amazon Web Services (Sydney region) directly to our email, which is provided by Google Workspace. Form submissions are not stored on the website. Our email and analytics providers may store data outside New Zealand. We only use providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to the Privacy Act. We may also share project information with others involved in the project where that's needed to carry out the work you've asked for.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry and project information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, including our legal and record-keeping obligations.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Contact us at malcolm@detec.co.nz or 027 693 3832.
If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
